Golf Swing Away: Don't Forget 'Signs'
Like in the movie “Signs”, your golf swing should ‘swing away’...

Remember the scene in the movie “Signs” where the younger brother, a baseball star, is inspired
by the words of his dying aunt to “swing away?” He puts his heart into it and swings away, like his
life depended on it (which it did in the movie). That is what your golf swing should be like—a
baseball player swinging away by putting his heart into the swing with all of the torque of his body.

There can be “power leaks” in a golf swing, without which it’s possible to swing at the ball and
achieve impact like it’s an atomic blast. Because the size and angle of the club heads actually
control the altitude and distance when a golf ball is properly hit, your golf swing should not be that
much different when driving, hitting from the fairway, or chipping onto the green. Putting, of
course, is a whole different animal when it comes to golf swings.

A fluid, yet controlled golf swing, where the body is properly wound-up and then rapidly unwound,
is not just a dream for amateurs and a reality for the pros. You, too, can “swing away” and let the
golf club do its job of going the distance you need. How do you develop the confidence to swing
with your heart, yet hit the ball straight towards the pin? Practice, of course, yet there are plenty of
golf swing training courses and devices on the market to help your practice pay off.

One of the biggest problems that happens because of an improper golf swing is that the ball hooks
or slices from the point of impact. Of course, this dramatically adds to the number of strokes it takes
to get your ball to the pin. Straight drives, as well as straight shots of any type, are crucial to
keeping the number of strokes to a minimum. There are helpful training aids available that make
being a straight shooter easier.

To read or see a tutorial on how a golf swing should be made, check out this great link about the
perfect golf swing. It should be pointed out that due to your body type, some of the steps in a golf
swing may not be completely do-able by you. In those cases, you need to develop your own
customized versions of what the steps are doing. Your golf swing, in many cases, becomes a
unique blend of proper technique and your individual traits and strengths. It should be pointed out
that being in good condition physically is generally required in order to perform a great golf swing.
However, having lots of muscles, particularly in the shoulders, back, and chest, can actually make
you “muscle-bound” and may affect your flexibility. A great golf swing is all about flexibility and
keeping everything in alignment, and not so much about how big or how splendidly athletic you
are.
